New York City has a very extensive hotel offer, so extensive that sometimes it makes it difficult for us to find the ideal accommodation for our trip. Almost 85% of the hotels in the city are always occupied despite the fact that the average price is around $ 290 per night. With around 55 million visitors a year and 106,000 hotel rooms, in this city you can find from the most modest hotels (around $ 100 a night) to the largest renowned accommodations such as the Waldorf Astoria, the Greenwich Hotel, or the Plaza Hotel.
Unfortunately, the latter is not usually within the reach of ordinary mortals, so we have not yet had the honor of staying in them. You may know them from television series like Gossip Girl or Sex and the City. If you have the opportunity to sleep in one of them, do not hesitate to take advantage of it, although I have already warned you, at the door, there is always a tide of paparazzi and some other crazy fan, not in vain the leading celebrities of the moment stay here.
But hey, let’s stop dreaming. After many trips to the Big Apple, we have been able to try many hotels, and of course, we have had both bad and good experiences. What is clear is that there is an option for all tastes and we want to show you our favorites in this article. Will this be the perfect hotel for your trip to New York?
The Standard, High Line
Opened in 2009, this hotel brings a modern note and interesting architecture to the already latent and interesting Meatpacking District of New York. Located a few meters from the High Line Park, it offers quality accommodation in an environment of design, unique individuality. In addition, its 337 rooms offer a breathtaking view of the city, on one side of the Hudson River and on the other of the High Line and all the Meatpacking. On its top floor is the popular Rooftop-Bar le Bain, a most impressive brewery. To be honest, everything is very chic and a bit expensive, but for a special occasion it is worth it.
We ourselves stayed at the Standard Hotel a few months ago on our last visit to Manhattan and personally loved it. You can read more about our experience in this article. The price of the room starts at around $ 250 per night but varies greatly depending on the season and availability.
We continue in the Meatpacking District to tell you about the Gansevoort hotel, which is highly appreciated by young people visiting the city. The popularity of the area, the original design of its 186 rooms, and its relaxing Rooftop bar make this hotel one of our 5 favorites, although if what you are looking for is sobriety and tranquility, we do not recommend it. Rooms are decorated with photos from Studio 54, quirky mannequins, and small balconies. Already the entrance and the reception area are like a playground for adults. A bar, a pool table, and a large number of sofas and places to relax act as a common area where guests can meet and spend time together. At night you cannot miss the Plunge Rooftop Bar & Loungewear you can enjoy a drink with views of the illuminated city. The night here comes to cost about $ 250 per person.
Near the One World Trade Center, the 9/11 Memorial, and the great Battery Park is the Conrad Hotel, perfect for those seeking tranquility. This 15-story glass building and its roof terrace are set up as a Lobby. This Hotel offers Luxury and comfort in equal parts with a very high-quality base. The 88 rooms of this complex always include a Nespresso coffee machine and marble bathrooms to ensure maximum comfort. Here you will find contemporary art confined to more classic British-inspired decor.
Its location is ideal. On the one hand, it is a few meters from Battery Park, on the other a few minutes from one of the best hamburgers in New York “Shake Shack” and the 9/11 Memorial. Back at the hotel, from May to October you can enjoy a drink in the small but cozy “Loopy Doopy” Rooftop bar. The view of the Statue of Liberty and One World Trade Center is spectacular.
The price of this hotel varies a lot depending on availability, our experience tells us that it can range from $ 100 to $ 400 per night. That is why we recommend you look for it in advance. Tipp: there are sometimes interesting offers on booking.com.
Andaz Wall Street
A couple of minutes walk from the Conrad Hotel is the Andaz Wall Street Hotel belonging to the Hyatt group and aimed especially at the young and design-loving public. Each Andaz hotel has its own style and charm, which is why this Wall Street attracts businessmen and tourists alike. Its 253 rooms, located in the Barclays Bank building, are distributed in the form of a loft. After Hurricane Sandy, when the hotel was flooded and had to be completely evacuated, it was completely renovated and updated. As a detail, note that everything in the mini bar, such as soft drinks, snacks, and even alcoholic beverages, is free.
Hyatt Centric Times Square
In the center of Midtown Manhattan next to the impressive Grand Central Station is the Grand Hyatt. Getting to it is naturally very simple since it is located in front of the door of the most important station in the Big Apple. Getting to 5th Avenue, Times Square, and Rockefeller Center, or to Central Park will take you just two minutes from the hotel. The comfort of the Hyatt is second to none. The rooms are fully equipped and decorated and the surrounding restaurants and bars are the best.
The price of the room is usually between $ 250 and $ 500 per night in a double room. My advice: in booking you can find discounts of up to 40% for this hotel on certain dates, inquire well before booking.
